UL Solutions aimed to shape the laboratory of the future by implementing a digital twin. The key challenges were to optimize the utilization of laboratory resources to near maximum capacity, reduce turnaround times, increase overall throughput, and determine the ideal machine park and optimal staffing levels based on fluctuating demand patterns.
Planning was particularly demanding due to strong demand fluctuations and a high dependency on a few key customers. Without a data-driven planning tool, it was nearly impossible to efficiently manage laboratory resources and respond quickly to changes.
